Day Eight - The Finish! Well we all made it and amazingly no broken bones this year! Quite a relief and a sense of achievement as we arrived at Bushmans Sands to the sound of African drums. There was no let up on the last day. 196kms and we left at 8.00am immediately into an extreme decent into a wooded hill with more rocks boulders streams etc. One and half hours to do 1km! Then it was a long bumpy ride to climb the Katberg Mountains and make the run to home. 150kms of hot dusty gravel roads across miles of African savannah to the end. Glad to have finished and rest my weary bones! Cheers Guy

"Day Seven - today was a real test of endurance. It was 30 degrees and we rode 280kms on dusty dangerous gravel roads and small single track passes. The route took us up into the mountains which are beautiful. I'm totally exhausted but just pleased to get to Katberg. Last day tomorrow and another early start!" Cheers Guy
MESSAGE FROM GUY (23/10/11):
"Day Six - after a days rest day six started easily with a gentle ride from the hotel across the hills of the Wild Coast. Then it was back to normal with an extreme decent over boulders where at stages we had to lift our bikes over them! Several riders ended up down the side of the hill but no one hurt. Then more hills and gulleys until a long 100yds river crossing great fun! 90kms today but no tarmac yet! Getting tired now but still enjoying it as we took the ferry out of the Transkei to Morgans Bay. Beautiful hotel by the beach watching the whales. Apparently no more extreme stuff but I'm not so sure!" Cheers Guy
Day Five: Rest Day - Time for some R&R (22/10/11)
MESSAGE FROM GUY (21/10/11):
"Day Four - sorry about the late transmission but too many cocochinos last night! Yesterday was a very special day. They swapped my 250cc Honda for a 650cc and I rode with Mike Glover the Enduro Africa organiser and the man behind Touch Africa for an hour to see Moses the Headmaster at the school where the new classrooms have been built. Its fantastic to see where your money has gone and to see what a difference it has made. Thank you. Then it was back to reality! Steep decents rocks boulders mud sand and The Gorge. 1000ft in and 1000ft out. It was so hard but I got two thirds of the way up before I ran out of steam! Further than last year though and then it was a short ride to Mazeppa Bay and the bar!" Cheers Guy
MESSAGE FROM GUY (20/10/11):
"Day Three - a slightly easier day if that's possible! Left the Anchor Inn and rode the Wild Coast into Pongoland. Stunning scenery and even saw a whale at The Hole in the Wall (cliff actually). Lots of hill climbs, muddy gulleys and several tricky river crossings. Hard on the arms today especially on the hills and a nasty near vertical switch back decent. It's the big one tomorrow - The Gorge. Will let you know how I get on. Sleeping in a mud hut this eve!" Cheers Guy.
MESSAGE FROM GUY (19/10/11):
"Day Two - a really tough day and I've got the blisters and bruises to prove it! We had it all, jungle, mud, boulders, steep climbs, deep river crossings and another 200kms. Heat today as well and several riders needed saline drips after suffering from exhaustion. Stopped in St Johns for a KFC which was a spectacular setting with huge cliffs and a large river - with crocodiles allegedly! Long ride in the afternoon with several ravines to scale. Glad to get to the lodge this evening in one piece!" Cheers Guy.
UPDATE MESSAGE FROM GUY (18/10/11):
"Day One -Wow I had forgotten how hard the Enduro Africa is! Ride started at 8.00am this morning with a 40k ride on tarmac and dirt roads in chilly and cloudy conditions. Then we turned off into the rough stuff and as the rains are very late this year it's very slippery and muddy. Anyway after four river crossings, two extremely steep climbs, one almost impossible rock pass and 200k in total we eventually made it to MBotyi Lodge this evening. Tired but feeling slightly better after a couple of beers." Cheers Guy.
